This study entitled “Flouting Maxims in movie “How to Train Your Dragon 2” is mainly aimed to investigate how and why Grice’s Maxims are flouted in some conversation in the movie. The movie and the script play were obtained by downloading from the internet, and some techniques of collecting the data in this study were watching, listening, reading and note taking. The data was descriptively analyzed based on Grice’s theory in his book entitle “Logic and Conversation” about cooperative principle and mainly focused in flouting maxims in which there are four flouting maxims such as flouting maxim of quality, maxim of quantity, maxim of relevance, and maxim of manner. This study found that all of the maxims are flouted by the speaker or the hearer even both of them, whether it was maxim of quality, maxim of quantity, maxim of relevance or maxim of manner and maxim of manner was mostly flouted in the conversation. A special case is found, where the two maxims are flouted (maxim of quality and maxim of quantity) in the data and it can be concluded if there is a possibility not only one maxim is flouted, it might be another maxim can also flouted in a conversation.
