In Japanese there are two types of expressions that shows past events. They are verb with ~ta and ~teita as predicate. Eventhough, both show past event but they are different in terms of aspectuality due to the meaning. This study aims at identifying the meaning and different usage of both the past form of ~ta and ~teita. The result shows that in Japanese, past expressions of ~ta and ~teita have different meanings by its aspectuality.Verb with ~ta shows an event has been done or just show the time marker (kanryou) in the past event. While, verbs with ~teita shows past event with particular duration of time occurred of the happening. Keywords: aspect, verba ~ta, verba ~teita
