Sarad and Jatah are offerings presented during big temple ceremonies (odalan), when goods come down for visit. One of the favorite dyas for such ceremonies falls on the full moon of the 10th month of the Balinese lunar-solar (Saka) calendar. The Sarad-Jatah offerings are visual representation follows the depiction of the world given in the story of the churning of the milky sea (Mandara Giri) such as told in the Old Javanese text Adiparwa. The Sarad-Jatah represent the dialectics of the positive and the negative found in Hinduisme (Rwa Bhinneda), but their vertical structure symbolizes the symbolic tripartition (Tri LOka) of the world into Bhur Loka, Bwah Loka and Swah Loka.
