Abstract

From 2011 to 2012, Clinical Legal Education (CLE} was initiated by the Asia Foundation through USAID funded Project titled Educating and Equipping Tomorrows Justice Reformers (E2J). This project, invited eight universities in indonesla including Udayana Univusity to develop CLE. Although the CIE is stilt a new concept for the law faculty that it has offered as elective subjects through curriculum since 2012, the students are enthusiastic about taking them. To serve the students interests, Faculty of Law Udayana University has established legal clinics: civil law, airninal law, anti-corruption law, and environmental law. All the clinics are working with external civil society organizations (C50sl and formal justice sector institutions tct provide students with real-life, hands-on experiences, Developing, establishing, promothig, arid improving the legal clinics has been demanding and has required great effort on behalf of the law faculty. This process has made apparent how important the Eurnmrtment of the faculty is and bow critical their attitudes are for ensuring the success and sustainability of the clinics. The most rewarding aspect of the new legal clinics is the benefits that they provide the students, especially practical skills and analytical thinking. Unlike other courses, clinic students are preparing legal documents, writing accusations, drafting letters of indictment, and so forth. They are meeting with real clients and participating in real cases also in classroom use interactive tenhing methods and more practical information, To provide enriching opportunities for students to learn practical legal skills, the law faculty has facilitated memorandums of understanding with external partners: 1050s, local law firms, local courts and prosecutor offices. This approach has not only provided law students with greater learning opportunities, it has also strengthened the relationship among faculty and justice sector counterparts. Furthermore, it has provided learning opportunities for the law faculty vyho are not allowed practicing law.
