Abstract

Background: The use of drugs in the treatment of peptic ulcer disease has a relatively high prices and have considerable side effects if taken for a long time. The use of traditional medicine is generally considered safer than the use of modern medicine because it has side effects that are relatively smaller than modern medicine. Objective: The aim of this research was to determine the profile of TLC-Densitometer and antiulcer activity of ethanol extract of Anredera scandens (L.) Moq. leaves. Methods: This research was to determine the profile of TLC-densitometers and antiulcer activity assay on six groups of Sprague Dawley strain male rats. The treatment groups received ethanol extract of Anredera scandens (L.) Moq. leaves in three variation doses (250; 500 and 1000 mg/kgBW) for 7 days. On day 7th, all groups received ethanol 10 mL/kgBB except normal group. Gastric histopathology data obtained from microscopic observed were analyzed by non parametric analysis. Outcome measured : Score the degree of damage to the gastric mucosa of male rats. Results : The determination of the TLC-densitometer profiles using some kind of mobile phase showed that the ethanol extract of leaves Anredera scandens (L.) Moq. contains flavonoid, saponin, tannin and triterpene groups. This research showed that ethanol extract of Anredera scandens (L.) Moq. leaves at doses of 250, 500 and 1000 mg/kgBW had antiulcer activity on ethanol induced gastric ulceration in male rats with the percentage of gastric mucosal protection of 39.29±8.83%, 59.53±6.52% and 85.72±3.26%. Conclusion: In conclusion, TLC-densitometer profiles showed that the ethanol extract of leaves Anredera scandens (L.) Moq. contains flavonoid, saponin, tannin and triterpene groups and also had antiulcer activity on ethanol induced gastric ulceration in male rats.
